Bosch KGN36A10GB Frost Free Fridge Freezer

Bought this fridge a few weeks back thinking I was investing my money in a reliable brand with good pedigree and reputation, and one that would last a long time. I've had a Hotpoint fridge freezer before and it lasted 4 years but I had to leave it behind when I moved house.

This product being part of Bosch's top-end Logixx range should be leaps ahead of the Hotpoint. It's simply not. What it really is an over-hyped appliance that has very little to justify itself.

Here's the problem list:
- it alarms out even if you open either fridge or freezer door for more than 30 seconds - annoying!
- the top freezer drawer lid never closes first time - you have to give it a good push to make sure the lid sticks
- the super-freeze feature is meant to be an optimised setting that quickly freezes/cools the compartments - but the setting has a cycle that last more than 24 hours. There is NO feedback once the super-freeze button is pressed.
- it starts making refrigeration noise about 3 seconds after you open any door. Nothing to do with operational settings - I'm running Fridge at 4 deg C and Freezer at -22 deg C - very normal.
- trays are flimsy and build-quality is less than average. Nothing solid or trusting about the feel of this product, except maybe the door handles. So makes a good impression. Take out a glass shelf to examine closer - its constructed of cheap synthetics.
- side light is badly positioned. A single loaf of bread in the top compartment is enough to block or shade the light out
- certainly lacks space. Bosch have built a chiller safe in the lower part of the fridge section for meat and fish refrigeration. It doesn't work they way you would expect because the safe is held to the upper fridge compartment by PLASTIC brackets either side which fall out of the rail the chiller safe grabs hold off. Why? Because the chiller safe cannot handle more than ~2kg!!
Remember, the chill is recommended for meat and fish, both usually heavy frozen foods.
- after trying to fix the chiller safe and re-attach it to the rails, I decided to take the lid off first so to avoid damage. The lid can easily come out as per instructions but when I attempted this, the lid came out abrubtly and smashed against the side door resulting in it detaching itself from the hinge - for good! I don't use the lid now and am hoping the Bosch engineer is going to replace without a quibble.

Moral of the story, this rubbish appliance is made of brittle glass and constructed to shoddy standards. I gave a 3 instead of zero because it does look smart - but this is 100% mutton dressed as lamb! Shame it can't adequately store the lamb without beeping, making ridiculous noises, or breaking. What an expensive waste.
