Buying a Rangemaster range cooker

Invented back in 1830 by William Flavel the son of Rangemaster’s founder John Flavel, the kitchener was the first cooker in the world to offer the facility to roast, boil, bake and warm from a single heat source. Rangemaster range cookers are still manufactured from the same site the kitchener was produced at in Royal Leamington Spa.

Over the last five generations, Rangemaster has forged an unrivalled reputation for innovation, quality and expertise. The Range cooker was a revelation and Rangemasters new ranges still share this original dedication to quality, design and innovation.

Buying a Rangemaster - Points to consider:

Fuel Type

Freestanding cookers can be all-electric, all-gas or dual fuel. There is also the option of LPG (Liquid Petroleum gas) which is available if you have no connection to a mains Gas Supply

Oven Linings

Stay-clean liners: These are detachable metal liners inside the oven that can be removed for easy cleaning

Catalytic liners: These liners are made of a special material that absorbs grease and spills. When the oven is heated to more than 200 C these spills are burnt off

Pyrolysis: This is the most efficient way to clean your oven. When oven is set to "Pyro" mode it heats itself to a very high temperature, and all spills are reduced to a fine grey dust that you simply wipe out when cool.

Gas Ovens

These require a supply of Gas (Usually piped directly into your house). Gas ovens give instant heat, although this can be an uneven distribution of heat depending on the flame location. Fanned Gas ovens offer a more consistant heat distribution. Burning Gas creates a moist atmosphere, preventing your food from drying out whilst cooking. Ideal for roasts! LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) can also be used to fuel your oven. This is normally stored in tanks outside the house. All Gas fittings must be fitted by a registered CORGI fitter by law.

Electric Ovens

Electric and Duel-Fuel ovens require a 30amp cooking circuit to be installed. This is standard in most kitchens. It is always recommended that you have professional electricians fit your appliance. Electric ovens offer a more consitant heat throughout the oven, but are hotter at the top. However they do require time to warm up.

Hob Types

Gas: Gas hobs offer instant heat and are easy to control. Available in several sizes ranging from 4 burners to 8 burners.

Electric: Electric hobs usually consist of 4 heat rings in various sizes. These offer a even distribution of heat. Not as easy to control the heat output compared to Gas.

Ceramic: Very fast heating, and much easier to clean than traditional electric or gas hobs. Usually consist of a Halogen heat element which offers instant heat. Halogen heat is the next best option if Gas is not available.

Storage Drawer / Handy Rack

Some cookers offer a storage draw below the oven. These are good if you are short of space elsewhere in the kitchen for storing pots and pans.

Slow Cooking

Many ovens now offer a slow cooking option. This replicates the heating approach of a separate slow cooker.Ideal for heating stews and similar food that requires gentle cooking.

Cooking Extras

Many Rangemaster Cookers come with additional cooking tools. These range from an extra-fast wok burner (for cooking stir fries) or a cast iron griddle (Ideal for searing fish and meat)

Style

There are many styles to consider, ranging from the Traditional Style, perfect for that country cottage feel, to the Contemporary Style for the latest take on modern range cooking

Doors

Range Cookers come with a choice of doors. A Porthole door offers a small window so you can see into the Oven, or you can simply have a Solid Door.

Size

This is the dimensions of the oven. The height is measured from the hob to the base. The width varies depending on the oven, from 500mm to 1200mm (or more).
