Great sound 9/1/2009

Rating: 10

Excellent piece of kit. We worried about reception as our cottage is built into a hillside and our Vita radio was very fussy about where we put it. The MP53 worked straight from the box in its intended position, and gave superb sound, practically hifi. (We get bubbles in the bath noises about twice a day which we put down to aircraft interference.) Elgar 1 and Brendel playing Shubert provided as stiff a test as any for the CD. Beautifully clean rich sound - no buzz or hum. Uncluttered front, with only the volume control. Everything else operates from the remote control, which takes a bit of getting used to, but is instinctive once you've set the presets. Recording to SD or USB stick is easy and works flawlessly. So does the recording/playback to/from minidisc via the optical connection. Quibbles: 1 - I would have liked to be able to set up timed recordings to catch things when I'm out. Most cheap radio-cassette recorders could do this. 2- I think the headphone socket should be on the front.
